In NSW over 1.2 million tonnes of food waste is disposed in landfill each year by households and businesses, at a cost of over $2.5 billion dollars. When this food is wasted all of the resources that went into growing, manufacturing, storing and transporting that food are also wasted. In a bid to make food waste a thing of the past, the NSW Government launched the Love Food Hate Waste NSW program in 2009 as part of Waste Less Recycle More. To deliver the program, the Love Food Hate Waste NSW team work with a range of partners including councils, community groups and not for profit organisations who run activities in their region. LFHW NSW is supporting the delivery of net zero emissions of organics waste in landfill by 2030.
