GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia)

GECA started in 2000 with a key focus on combating greenwash. The organisation developed its first standards and commenced its ecolabelling program in 2002 after a national consultation process. An advisory board was established that included environmental and sustainability organisations such as Sustainable Business Australia, Greening Australia, EcoBuy, NATA, RMIT, CSIRO as well as a number of prominent ex-conservation group leaders from Australian Conservation Foundation, ANU and Greenpeace.

Our team is passionate about finding new ways to provide solutions for sustainable consumption and production. While our key offering continues to be Australia's only not-for-profit multi-sector ecolabelling program, we have expanded to deliver a suite of services designed for anyone committed to continuous improvement in their sustainability. We offer tangible solutions through certification, education, consultancy and advocacy. This includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), GECA Claims Authentication, training and customised consulting. GECA's database of certified products and services can be found at www.geca.eco

GECA helps people and organisations to make, buy and do better for people and the planet. Our Type 1, ecolabelling program assesses products and services against our global best practice standards. These standards address Impacts across the entire life-cycle of a product, to ensure they have a lower impact on the environment, human health, and are ethically made.
